MOV is Apple's QuickTime container — the default for iPhone recordings and many Mac apps. The good news: most MOV files already hold H.264 video, so they don't need re-encoding at all. This converter swaps the container, not the picture: a lossless remux that finishes in seconds with zero quality loss. Only when the source codec genuinely can't live in an MP4 does it fall back to a one-time H.264/AAC re-encode, and the result badge tells you which path ran. Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded during conversion?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device — you can even go offline after the page loads.
Does converting MOV to MP4 lose quality?
Usually not. Most MOV files carry H.264 video, which MP4 supports natively, so the streams are copied bit-for-bit (lossless remux). Re-encoding only happens when the source codec cannot live inside MP4, and the result badge tells you which path ran.
What about iPhone HEVC (H.265) videos?
HEVC can travel inside MP4, so those files are remuxed losslessly too. Note that some older players don't play HEVC-in-MP4; a force-H.264 option is on our roadmap if you need maximum compatibility.
Why was my file re-encoded instead of remuxed?
Codecs like ProRes or certain PCM audio tracks are not valid inside an MP4 container, so the tool automatically re-encodes them to H.264/AAC — the most widely playable combination.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 500 MB are supported. Remuxed files finish in seconds; re-encodes take roughly 1.5x the video length.
