Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded while muting?
No. The operation runs inside your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device — you can even go offline after the page loads.
Does muting reduce video quality?
No. The video stream is copied bit-for-bit; only the audio track is dropped. The picture is byte-identical to the original.
Why is it so fast?
Because nothing is re-encoded. Removing audio only requires rewriting the container around the existing video stream, which takes seconds even for large files.
Can I remove audio from just part of the video?
Not yet — this tool mutes the whole file. For partial edits, trim the section first with our trim tool, mute it, and rejoin in your editor. A range-based mute is on our roadmap.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 500 MB are supported. Since muting is a stream copy, even files near the limit finish in seconds.
Is this free?
